Deadlines
What is the deadline for 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund claims?
What is the deadline for 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund claims?
There are two deadlines in the VCF claim filing process – the Registration Deadline and the Claim Filing Deadline.
Meeting both the Fund’s registration deadline and claim filing deadline are essential to recovering compensation from the Department of Justice. Missing a deadline can result in your claim being denied, so it’s important to act now.
We encourage all potential claimants to register now and have helped thousands of individuals preserve their future rights by registering with the fund. In certain situations, we may be able to argue there were “extenuating circumstances” which may allow the VCF Special Master to find your claim eligible (even if your deadline has passed).
If you have questions about the deadlines for your unique situation, don’t wait until it’s too late to qualify for your claim! Contact us today to get registered.

VCF registration deadline
Registration is not the same as filing a claim with the VCF.
Your Registration Deadline is determined according to the claim type (personal injury, deceased claim, cancer claim, etc.), varies based on your circumstances, and is not the same for everyone.
Registering preserves your right to file a 9/11 claim, waives no legal rights, and does not require you to file a claim at any point in the future.
The purpose of Registration is to alert the VCF that you may be a potential claimant; and ensure you meet the legal requirement of “timeliness” as required by the federal government.
You do not need to be sick or have a current diagnosis of a certified 9/11-related cancer or illness to register.
VCF claim filing deadline
In 2019, H.R.1327, the “Never Forget the Heroes: James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer, and Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act” (also known as the “VCF Permanent Authorization Act”) fully funded the Victim Compensation Fund and extended the claim filing deadline until October 1, 2090.
